Rocky Mountain Children's Law Center staff attorneys are appointed by the court in five front range counties: Denver, Jefferson, Adams, Arapahoe, and Clear Creek to serve as guardians ad litem for over five hundred of Colorado’s abused and neglected children each year. Our specialized attorneys accept a limited number of cases to ensure they have time to get to know each child and his/her situation to make appropriate recommendations on his/her behalf.
The Children’s Law Center is focused on achieving five key life-changing goals for our child clients:
• Achieving Permanence: Ensure child clients have loving, permanent homes as quickly as possible to allow them to develop meaningful family relationships and heal.
• Keeping Siblings Together: Advocate to place all siblings together or facilitate meaningful contact between them (when appropriate) to maintain as much normalcy as possible for children in the chaos of state care.
• Stopping Arbitrary Moves: Challenge all arbitrary moves to promote stability, reduce the number of times children move between placements, and diminish the potential for attachment disorders.
• Implementing A Holistic Approach: Identify and advocate for necessary schooling and appropriate mental health treatment for all of our child clients to help them heal from past traumas as quickly as possible.
• Easing the Transition for Youth 18 Years and Over: Help youth forced to leave foster care at age 18 develop into self-sufficient adults.
